We all have our little rituals when it comes to practically anything in life, whether we are aware of them or not. The order in which we load the dishwasher; the nightly bath-and-bed routine; the checking of the locks or the light switches; the walking of the dog. Each of these — and more — can be viewed as a ritual, no matter how mundane.
There’s an adage that says, “where intention flows, energy goes” — and it’s as true here as anywhere else. So much of what we do is practical and procedural, but that doesn’t mean we can’t infuse a little magic along with way. I have reached a point in my witchcraft practice where virtually everything has some kind of magic and/or intention associated with it, whether or not I show this verbally or physically. A lot of my magic is on the down-low — not because I’m hiding it or value it any less, but because it’s so integrated with my life that it can blink-and-you’ll-miss-it.
The downside of this is, of course, that it can become so intertwined in my life that sometimes even I blink and miss it, if I’m not paying attention. And that brings me back to attention, intention, and magic, and how I perceive the differences between the three (definitions my own):
Attention | n. The act of noticing, awareness
Intention | n. The act of assigning/imbuing a purpose to an object or situation
Magic | n. & v. The act of bending energy at will to achieve a desired result
Therefore, I’m starting a series here on Tea, Leaves, and Toe Beans about the little rituals I do in my day, and how magic can be woven into the most functional of acts. The first is coming later this afternoon, but the rest I’ll scatter here and there between other posts; these will be for paid subscribers only, but the first will be free to read for the next 7 days.
There will, of course, be other posts forthcoming if this sort of thing isn’t your cup of tea; I have lots to say and share about writing, books, the cats, and more, so stay tuned. Thank you for your presence here, and your time. Blessings and love to you and yours. 🧡
